Wildfires fueled by hot weather and strong winds are ravaging parts of Spain and southwest France, displacing more than 65,000 people from their homes. Isabel Díaz Ayuso, regional president of the area surrounding Madrid, said the fires that have ravaged the region are the most serious the region has ever experienced due to the merging of several fronts leading to catastrophe. The Gironde region in France is experiencing an “XXL” wildfire that has burned down more than 12,500 hectares of forests and many homes.
